Mr Rohit Jolly
BSc (Hons), MBBS, FRCOphth
Mr Jolly is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon based in London with subspecialist interests in paediatric ophthalmology, adult strabismus and neuro-ophthalmology, adult cataract surgery and general ophthalmology. He is the clinical lead for Ophthalmology at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust where he holds a substantive NHS consultant post and over the past thirteen years he has developed a passion and expertise in the medical and surgical management of children and adults with eye complaints.
He performs small incision cataract surgery for routine and complex cases and offers patients the option of premium intraocular lenses to help them adapt to their relevant lifestyles, aiming to achieve spectacle independence.
In his paediatric practice Mr Jolly undertakes squint surgery for children of all ages, performs procedures to help relieve watery eyes in the very young and also lid and brow lesion removal.
Botulinum toxin can be used to help manage squints in children and adults as well as the treatment of twitching eyelids (myokymia and blepharospasm) and the face (hemifacial spasm) and is something Mr Jolly offers in his practice.
Squint surgery has developed over the years and it is important to adapt to these changes. Mr Jolly’s practice thus offers fornix based small incision surgery as well as the option of surgery with adjustable sutures so as to provide more predictable post operative results. His adult practice also encompasses lid lesion removal including chalazion incision and drainage, repair of periorbital and lid trauma and YAG capsulotomy for posterior capsular opacification.
‘The approach to patient care has to be specifically tailored to each individual, whether a child or adult, and involve them along this journey and decision making process. This principle is something I firmly believe in and showing compassion and empathy, being calm and competent, and listening is something I channel into each consultation, to gain trust and do my best.’

Mr Jolly graduated from University College London and as well as his medical degree received a First with honours in Neurosciences with a Deans list prize for recognition of his outstanding achievement.
He undertook his ophthalmic training within the North Thames London Deanery, rotating through many different hospitals including the world renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital, acquiring a breadth of experience from leading clinicians within their fields as well as winning prizes for quality improvement and leadership throughout the course of his training.
He has furthered his extensive experience by undertaking a fellowship at the Royal Free London in paediatric ophthalmology, adult strabismus and cataract surgery, learning the modern techniques of squint surgery as well as its medical management. In addition to this he has a keen interest in acute ophthalmic care and has previously held the position of a consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital in the busiest dedicated ophthalmic eye casualty in Europe.
As Clinical Lead for the emergency eye services at the Royal Free, this entails providing and coordinating care across the North Central London network to ensure that patients are treated safely and in a timely manner and colleagues are supported. Mr Jolly is very active in the training of junior surgeons, (being part of the faculty for surgical skills at the Royal College), as well as primary care healthcare professionals, and continuously receives positive feedback from colleagues about the impact he has had on their development as clinicians.
